Holštejn Castle

The castle Holštejn ( Holstein , originally Hohlenstein ) is the ruin of a rock castle near Holštejn in the north of the Moravian Karst in the Czech Republic .

history

The Holštejn Castle was built in 1278 by Hartmann von Holštejn from the Čeblovice family on the cave stone . It got its name after the cave in the castle rock. At first it was called Hohlenstein, later Holstein. Under the Lords of Čeblovice, the surrounding forest areas of the Drahaner Bergland were colonized with German settlers. Hartmann's only son Crha entered a monastery and died in 1308. With the death of Hartmann von Holštejn, the Čeblovice family died out in 1315 and the rule fell to the Crown of Bohemia . Most of the Hohlensteiner possessions were then awarded to the governor Čeněk von Leipa . Before 1321 he sold the castle with the Holštejn farm and the associated villages Hartwigslag , Zybothslag , Kylein , Boda , Czynols , Gothfridslag , Merhlinslag (Bystřec), Ulraischlag (Budkovany), Gedwicz ), Wylhlemslag , half of Preterslag and Thenwald to Wok / Vok, who, like the Lords of Sovinec, came from the Moravian family of the Hrut and established the independent tribe of the Lords of Holstein . It was not until 1349 that the sale was entered in the land table . In 1371, Wok II of Holštejn was entered as the owner of the estate in the land table. At that time, the original German settlement had already expired and the villages were given Czech names. The next owner was Wok III. von Holštejn, a son of Wok II. He shared the property while still alive with his son Wok IV, who was based on Lipovec and also used the title Wok von Lipovec . Wok IV of Holštejn died in 1420 in the battle of Vyšehrad and his heir became Wok V. of Holštejn. In the following period the castle was destroyed by the Hussites , but was rebuilt soon afterwards. Most of the villages were devastated. In 1437 Wok V. sold the rule to Hynek von Waldstein . Wok V later bought back at least part of the rule. In 1455 he sold the northern part with the castle and the town of Holštejn , the villages of Ostrov and Lipovec and the desert village of Housko to Půta from Sovinec on Doubravice . In 1474 the brothers Jindřich, Zikmund, Jan and Heralt from Sovinec and Doubravice inherited the goods. In 1483 they sold the property to Dobeš Černohorský von Boskowitz . From him in 1493 Hynek von Popůvek bought the castle. He had his seat at the Pozořice Fortress and let the castle fall into disrepair. After his death in 1528, his daughter Margarethe inherited the property. In 1531 she married Johann von Widbach, at which time the castle is mentioned as desolate. Bernard Drnovský from Drnovec bought the Holštejn manor in 1567 and joined them to Rájec .

Structural systems

Are preserved parts of the casing walls and the remains of the outer wall of palases , as the outer wall of the keep , but are all in a good condition. The Hladomorna cave is located under the castle rock.
