Sovinec (noble family)

The Lords of Sovinec (also von Eulenberg ; Czech ze Sovince ) were a noble Moravian family. Their ancestral seat was from around 1320 the castle Sovinec ( Eulenburg ), which was built by them. Members of the family held high episcopal and state offices in Moravia. At the beginning of the 16th century, a descendant moved to Bohemia .

The later Lords of Sovinec previously settled at the fortress in Huzová . For the years 1299 to 1302 Paul / Pavel (I.) is documented, who in these years acted as sub-chamberlain of the Olomouc bishopric and in 1302 also held the office of sub-chamberlain of Moravia. His son of the same name Paul / Pavel (II.) Was the first to call himself "de Aulnburk" in 1332, which is why it is assumed that he was the first to take his seat on the Eulenburg, built around 1320 near Sovinec ( Eulenberg ). The Czech spelling “Sovinecz” is first documented in 1353 in the corresponding entry in the Olomouc country table. The gender name “von Sovinec” or Czech “ze Sovince” is derived from this.

By marriage in 1368 Paul / Pavlík (IV.) Came from Sovinec to Pňovice ( Kniebitz ). His son Ješek (I.) referred to himself for the first time in 1405 with the predicate z Pňovic . His son Johann / Jan (II.) Was chief district judge in Olomouc in 1420, captain of Litovel from 1425–1427 and then captain of Olomouc until 1430. The family branch of Sovinec and Pňovice ( Pniowsky von Eulenberg, Pňovský ze Sovince ) settled at the fortress in Pňovice and until 1545 at the Eulenburg. He went out in 1548 with Ješek (IV.)

The branch of the family Sovinec on Doubravice is derived from Heralt (I.) von Sovinec, who is documented for the years 1409 to 1440 and was first named in 1418 with the predicate of Doubravice ( z Doubravic ). This line expanded there via Aleš (III) from Sovinec to Doubravice, who moved to Northern Bohemia in 1507. With his son Jan (V.), who owned Tauschetin and Neudorf , this branch of the family went out in 1580.

The previous assumption that the Lords of Sovinec had also earned the title of Holštejn is doubted or rejected according to recent literature. According to this, Wok / Vok (I.), who acquired the Holštejn castle in 1321 , also descended from the Moravian family of the Hrut , but founded the independent branch of the family of the Lords of Holstein .
