predecessor
Not far from the town of Boskovice , the Boskovice Castle of the same name has been located since the 13th century and has been abandoned since 1733. Today it is a ruin that has been restored and whose walls are the same height as the original.
history
From 1819 the owner of the Boskovice estate, Franz Joseph von Dietrichstein, had a new castle built on the southern outskirts of the city on the site of the former Dominican monastery on the Sychrov slope. It is not certain who provided the plans for its construction. Originally it was believed that they came from Peter von Nobile . They attribute more recent research to the architect Josef Esch . The Dominican monastery, which was dissolved by Emperor Josef II in 1784 , and shortly afterwards served as a manufacture for the manufacture of paints, was later demolished and its building materials were used for the construction of the castle .
This resulted in the new Boskovice Castle, one of the Empire castles in Moravia . In the 1830s, Josef Hájek created an empire-style greenhouse in the palace gardens. Since 1856 the castle has been the property of the princes of the Mensdorff-Pouilly family, with interruptions .
In 1916 the courtyard wall of the west wing collapsed due to structural defects. To secure the statics of the building, the arcades were then connected with anchors and the arches covered. This gave the castle courtyard a redesign; only one window or door remained in each of the walled-in arches. In 1948 the castle was nationalized. In 1991 it was returned to the Counts Mensdorff-Pouilly as restitution.
