Chaquí is a town in the Potosí department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Chaquí is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chaquí in the province of Cornelio Saavedra and is located at an altitude of 3500 m on the eastern edge of the Pampa Chaquí plain. The village is located at the confluence of the Río Tehuarani and the Río Khespi Llajta , which form the Río Chaquí Mayu below the town , the water of which flows further over the Río Puna , the Rio Miculpaya and the Río Mataca to the Río Pilcomayo .

Chaquí lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is semi-arid and a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than during the year.
The annual average temperature in the region is around 17 ° C (see Betanzo's climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between 14 ° C in June / July and 19 ° C from November to January. Transport network
Chaquí is 36 kilometers by road east of Potosí , the capital of the department.
From Potosí, the national highway Ruta 5 leads northeast via Betanzos to Sucre and on towards Santa Cruz in the Bolivian lowlands. Halfway between Potosí and Betanzos, a country road branches off in a southerly direction and after ten kilometers reaches Chaquí, it then continues to Chaquí Baños, five kilometers away, with its hot thermal springs . The road connection from Ruta 5 to Chaquí Baños is currently (as of 2009) under construction.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a significant proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Chaquí 81 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
