The municipality Puna (also: Villa Talavera ) is a district in the Potosí department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Municipio Puna is one of three ( until 2006: two ) Municipios in the José María Linares Province . It borders in the north on the province of Tomás Frías , in the west on the municipality Caiza "D" , in the south on the province Nor Chichas , in the southeast on the department Chuquisaca , and in the east on the municipality Ckochas . It extends for about 65 kilometers in a north-south and over 50 kilometers in an east-west direction.
The central place of the municipality is Puna with 1,525 inhabitants ( 2012 ) in the north-western part of the district.

The municipality of Puna is located in the southern part of the barren plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano .
The climate is cool and dry because of the inland location and is characterized by a typical daytime climate, in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are usually significantly greater than the seasonal fluctuations.
The annual average temperature is 13 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 10 ° C in June / July and a good 15 ° C from November to March (see Vitichi climate diagram). The annual precipitation is only about 400 mm, with a very pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with about 80 mm monthly precipitation.

The population of the Municipio Puna has decreased by about a sixth in the past two decades, which is due to the fact that the district was divided into the two independent Municipios Puna and Ckochas by law of August 15, 2006 .

The population density of the municipality in the last census of 2012 was 15.4 inhabitants / km², the proportion of the urban population is 0 percent; the proportion of the population aged under 15 is 44.7 percent ( 2001 ).
The literacy rate in the municipality of Puna ( 2001 census ) among those over 19 was 57 percent, namely 77 percent for men and 42 percent for women. The most important idiom with a share of 99 percent is Quechua , 50 percent of the population spoke Spanish . 89 percent of the population are Catholic, 10 percent Protestant.
The life expectancy of the newborns was 58 years. 92 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 89 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 2001 ).
