Suleyman Haddad

Suleyman Haddad ( Arabic سليمان حداد; * 1939 ) is a former Syrian diplomat .

Life

Suleyman Haddad has a daughter, Reem Haddad, director of Syrian TV until mid-June 2011 , and a son Ryiad Haddad.

He entered the foreign service and headed the Western Europe department in the Foreign Ministry. From 1987 to 1997 he was ambassador in Bonn . On May 21, 1988, the Syrian citizen Monzer al-Kassar, who is accused of having financed the kidnapping of Achille Lauro , was arrested on Bundesstraße 21 near Bad Reichenhall . Suleyman Haddad provided consular assistance and al-Kassar was released.

In 1995 he accompanied a delegation of Johannes Rau , Hans-Jürgen Wischnewski and Ignatz Bubis to Syria. On September 18, 2002, he was the Syrian Foreign Minister's deputy . From 2009 to 2012 he was a member of the People's Council (Syria) and chaired the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
