Sulo Richard Bärlund (born April 15, 1910 in Kangasala ; † April 13, 1986 ibid) was a Finnish athlete who was mainly active in the shot put .
A plumber by profession , Bärlund was active in various sports clubs in Tampere (Tampereen Kullervo, Tampereen Veikkot, Tampereen Pyrintö ). He won the Finnish shot put championships seven times and the TUL workers' sports federation three times . He was the first Finn to surpass the 16-meter mark, and on July 12, 1936, he set a Finnish record in the shot put of 16.23 meters, which would last into the 1950s.
At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin , he won the silver medal behind Hans Woellke with 16.12 m (15.68 - 16.03 - 14.98 - 15.52 - 16.12 - 15.42) .
