Sultan Shah Jahan
Sultan Shah Jahan Begum (born July 29, 1838 in Islamnagar , † June 16, 1901 in Bhopal ) was the regent of the princely state of Bhopal .
Sikandar Jahan Begum's daughter and Sultan Shah Jahan Begum's successor since 1868 was passionate about architecture, as was the Mughal ruler of the same name, Shah Jahan . She built a vast small town named Shahjahanabad after her. She also built a new palace - Taj Mahal (not to be confused with the Taj Mahal in Agra ). Many more beautiful buildings - Ali Manzil, Amir Ganj, Barah Mahal, Ali Manzil, Benazir Complex, Khawasoura, Mughalpura, Nematpua and Nawab Manzils were erected during her reign. The ruins of the Taj Mahal can still be seen today. Barah Mahal and Nawab Manzil have also withstood time.
In 1872 she was inducted into the Order of the Star of India as Knight Grand Commander .
In Woking she had the first mosque in England built, the Shah Jahan Mosque named after her .
During their reign in 1900, the complete absence of monsoons resulted in severe famine in Bhopal .
