Sum (administrative division)

A sum ( Mongolian ᠰᠤᠮᠤ Cyrillic Сум ) is a unit of the administrative division in the Mongolian-speaking areas of Mongolia , China , and Russia .

Mongolia

In Mongolia, the Sum are the second highest level of the regional administrative structure. They are divided into bags . Several sums form an aimag . There are 331 sum in Mongolia. A sum is comparable to the German administrative unit of the district .

A sum has an area of ​​4,200 km² and approx. 5,000 inhabitants. The household income of a sum averages 120 million tögrög (approx. 120,000 euros) per year and consists of 90% state subsidies.

China

Russia

In Russia, the Sumon are the second highest level of the regional administrative structure of the Autonomous Republic of Tuva . In the Republic of Buryatia , the same plain is called Somon . Both are equivalent to the Russian name Selski sowet , or Selsowet for short ( Russian Сельский совет, Сельсовет , village soviet ' ).
