Summit is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County , Washington state . As of the 2000 United States Census , Summit had 8,041 residents.

Demographics
As of the 2000 census , Summit had 8,041 residents, 2,990 households, and 2,272 families. The population density was 600.5 per km². There were 3,090 housing units at an average density of 230.8 per km².
The population was 88.07% White , 2.15% African American , 0.99% Native American , 2.9% Asian , 0.35% Pacific Islander , 1.8% from other "races" and 3.73% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 3.73% of the population.
Of the 2,990 households, 33.4% had children under the age of 18, 63.6% were run by married couples living together, and 8.4% by single mothers; 24% were non-families. 18.5% of the households were singles and 7.5% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.04.
