Sundaram-Clayton Limited ( SCL for short ) is an Indian company based in Chennai . It belongs to the TVS Group and produces cast parts made of light metal and other components that are primarily used in vehicle construction. TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons and other TVS Group companies currently hold 63.76% of the shares in SCL.

history

On May 24, 1962 Sundaram-Clayton Limited was founded as a joint venture between TVS & Sons and the British company Clayton Dewandre Holdings (now part of WABCO ). In 1972, SCL built an aluminum smelter to produce cast parts from light metal. In 1979, SCL started moped production in Hosur and founded the subsidiary Indian Motorcycle Pvt on July 15, 1982 . Ltd. , which cooperated with the Japanese company Suzuki , later called TVS Suzuki and now trades under the TVS Motor Company . The moped production was sold to TVS Suzuki in 1986. Sundaram-Clayton held 57.4% of the shares in TVS Motor Company in fiscal year 2017/18.

In 2005, CSL founded a new division to develop software for WABCO. In the same year, a separate factory for brakes and brake components was built. The entire brake technology division was outsourced to Wabco-TVS (now Wabco India) in 2007.

CSL's customers include Cummins (since 2001) and Volvo (since 2003). In 2009 the entire stake of Clayton Dewandre (39.17%) was taken over by companies of the TVS Group.

In the 2017/18 financial year, CSL achieved sales of EUR 220.2 million with a production of 50,592 tons of aluminum parts. 58% of sales are generated domestically and 42% through exports. In the vehicle sector, 50% of sales are in commercial vehicles, 26% in passenger cars and 24% in two-wheelers. The company has manufacturing facilities in Padi , Hosur (since 1998), Mahindra World City and Oragadam (since 2010) in Tamil Nadu . There is another plant in Ridgeville , South Carolina (USA).
