Oragadam ( Tamil : ஒரகடம் Orakaṭam [ ˈoɾəɡaɖʌm ]) is a place in the state of Tamil Nadu in India .

Oragadam is located southwest of Chennai (Madras) in the Kanchipuram district near the national highway NH 45 . So far, a few automotive suppliers are based in Oragadam. According to the 2011 census, Oragadam has 819 inhabitants.

In 2012 the plant of the Indian subsidiary of Daimler-Benz AG , Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, was opened on a company site of 160 hectares. Around 700 million euros have been invested in the location. On March 18, 2010 the test track was put into operation, on which the company's own vehicle developments as well as those of the competition are tested. Initially, 36,000 trucks of the BharatBenz brand will be produced per year (with a capacity of up to 70,000). A total of 17 vehicle types are to be built, which should cost between 25,000 and 60,000 euros per unit.

The Oragadam Industrial Area is being parceled out and developed by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (SIPCOT).

To improve the infrastructure and the connection routes to the second motor vehicle center southwest of Chennai, the city of Sriperumbudur , the state government of Tamil Nadu is building a connection road between the NH 4 ( Bangalore Highway ) and the NH 45 and on to Oragadam for a sum of 3 billion rupees .
