Sunday Observer is an English-language weekly newspaper in Sri Lanka , which the publishing house Lake House belongs.

The newspaper was founded in Colombo in 1834 as an "Observer and Commercial Advertiser". One of its editors, Christopher Elliot, was known for his opposition to British colonial rule and expressed this with his newspaper, which he renamed the "Colombo Observer". The newspaper was later renamed "Ceylon Observer".

DR Wijewardene bought the newspaper in 1923 and founded Lake House , the first national newspaper and publishing company. The Observer is now one of a growing number of newspapers in Sri Lanka that provide the population with daily news in English . In February 2012 the newspaper had a circulation of 175,000 a week.
