Sunkist Growers, Inc. is an American cooperative for the marketing of citrus fruits and their products and is based in Sherman Oaks , a district of Los Angeles . The approximately 6,000 members are mainly from California and Arizona . Members can only be producers and cooperative producer associations. Fruit juice products are sold worldwide under the name Sunkist .

history

Sunkist Growers emerged from the Southern California Fruit Exchange, founded in Claremont in 1893 . In 1905 the cooperative was incorporated as a corporation and renamed The California Fruit Growers Exchange . The new name was intended to take into account the importance it had acquired with 5,000 growers now, who represented 45% of the then citrus fruit industry in California.

In 1908 the marketing agency Lord & Thomas developed the name Sunkist. It served as a brand name for oranges of the highest quality. In 1952 the current name was finally adopted in order to bring the cooperative closer to the brand name.
