from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sunway TaihuLight ( Chinese  神威 · 太湖 之 光 , Pinyin Shénwēi Tàihú zhī Guāng ) is (as of March 2019) the third fastest supercomputer in the world. It was developed at the National Research Center of Parallel Computer Engineering & Technology (NRCPC for short) and is located in the National Supercomputing Center , Wuxi , Jiangsu in China. According to a LINPACK benchmark of 93.0146 Peta FLOPS , it was by far the fastest supercomputer in the world from June 2016 to June 2018.

Technical specifications

The configuration consists of 40,960 Sunway SW26010 - CPU 's, each with 260 processor cores , each with 1.45 GHz clocked. It has a total of 1.31 PB of working memory (RAM). It is housed in 40 server cabinets with 4 × 256 nodes each . This configuration results in a total of 10,649,600 cores. With 15,370 kW, the energy requirement is lower than with the Tianhe-2 supercomputer thanks to a more energy-efficient design , although the computing power has almost tripled. The Linux derivative RaiseOS developed by Sunway is used as the operating system .
