Superfly.fm (also Radio Superfly - Your Soul Radio) is a music-oriented private radio broadcaster from Vienna . It has been broadcasting since February 29, 2008.

history

Radio Superfly started its regular broadcasting operations on February 29, 2008 at 8:15 pm on the VHF frequency 98.3 MHz ( Danube Tower ), which had been recorded a few days earlier for test purposes, but not for 24 hours. In the first few weeks, the program - rather unusual for the Austrian radio market - managed without moderators. A live stream is available on the homepage that allows Radio Superfly to be received free of charge worldwide via the Internet.

Music format

In terms of content, the program is based on the experience of the head duo. Both Kamp and Tronigger are experienced in the club and event sector and have built up an independent record label. The musical direction covers the areas of black music and soul including the various sub-genres (especially funk , jazz , hip-hop , house , dance , electro and drum and bass ). Instead of automated music playback, DJs are used. The radio station started its own morning show called "Superfly Morning" from 6:00 am to 9:00 am. The “Day Times” format also brings the latest news from culture, art and lifestyle from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 10 pm.

Legal difficulties

A complaint from former competitors about the 98.3 MHz frequency is pending against the station at the Constitutional Court. However, this objection by the project company Inforadio Wien and Hit FM (Austria) did not have a suspensive effect . “98.3 superfly” was awarded the contract - at that time still under the name “Sunshine Radio” - for the last Viennese private radio frequency only after years of tug-of-war and appeal procedures before the Federal Communications Senate (BKS).

Originally the radio station was supposed to be called "Sunshine Radio". Due to the complaint from namesake Sunshine live from Mannheim, who had the name protected across Europe, a different name was finally found for the station. The new name is a tribute to the American soul musicians Curtis Mayfield and one of his biggest hits: With "Superfly" the artist published in 1972 one of the most influential Blaxploitation - soundtracks .

Others

Superfly.fm is part of Superfly Radio GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sunshine Enterprises, operated by station boss Matthias Kamp and Heinz Tronigger. The company has so far been active as the club organizer of the Babenberger Passage in Vienna, with the music label (Sunshine Records) and in the catering trade.
