Supersport Series 2001/02

The 2001/02 Supersport Series was the 73rd season of the national first-class cricket competition in South Africa, formerly known as the Currie Cup, and was held from October 5, 2001 to April 15, 2002. The final between KwaZulu-Natal and Northerns ended in a draw and KwaZulu-Natal won the competition due to the better preliminary round results.

format

The teams played in two divisions against each other team once each. A team received 10 points for a win and 6 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs ). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, both teams get 0 points, if the game is canceled, 5 points. There is also the possibility of collecting bonus points in the first 100 overs of the first inning . One point is awarded for the first 150 runs and 0.02 points for each further run, 1 bowling bonus point is awarded for reaching the 3, 5, 7, 9 wicket. If the game duration is reduced to one day, no bonus points will be awarded. It is also possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the top three of each division played in the Super Six round of which the top two teams played the final. The remaining teams played a consolation round.
