Susan Dougan

Susan Dilys Dougan , OBE , née Ryan (born March 3, 1955 in Colonarie , Parish Charlotte ) is a Vincentian education politician and since August 1, 2019 incumbent and first female Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines .

Dougan holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Educational Sciences University of Southampton and was trained in the subjects of chemistry, biology and general sciences. She has worked as a teacher and was the headmaster at St. Vincent Girls' High School in Kingstown from 2001 to 2004 . In 2004 she began working directly for the government. As Chief Education Officer (state school director), she worked from 2004 to 2009, among other things, on the implementation of the school reform passed by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves , in which all primary school students were guaranteed a place at a secondary school. Dougan was the government's cabinet secretary from 2009 to 2013.

From December 2014 she was Deputy Governor General. She was elected to the office of Governor General on August 1, 2019 and sworn into office on the same day. She succeeded Frederick Ballantyne , who stepped down for health reasons. Its head is Queen Elizabeth II , its Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.

In 2010 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services in education and administration .
