The Susan River ( Montagnais name: Pekissiu-shipiss ) is a 61 km long river in central east Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The headwaters of the Susan River form a 510  m high wetland. The Susan River flows mainly in an easterly direction. There are several lakes in the upper reaches. The river eventually flows into the northwestern end of the Grand Lake . The catchment area of the Susan River covers 363 km². It borders the Red Wine River to the north and the Beaver River to the south . The latter flows into Grand Lake about 2 km east of the mouth of the Susan River. The mouth delta of the Beaver River almost cuts off the mouth of the Susan River from the main lake. At the bottleneck, across from the delta of the estuary, there is a measuring point that monitors the water quality.

Fish fauna

Atlantic salmon and brook char occur in the river system of the Susan River . In addition, in the Susan River probably come Redhorse Catostomus Catostomus (Longnose sucker) and Catostomus commersonii (White sucker) and three-spined and nine-spined stickleback , Arctic Norway and Prosopium cylindraceum (Round whitefish) before. NASCO does not appear to have any information regarding the status of salmon stocks in the river system.
