Susanna Babkenowna Amatuni ( Russian Сусанна (Шушаник) Бабкеновна АматуниArmenian Սուսաննա (Շուշանիկ) Ամատունի ; born 28. February 1924 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ;. Died 20th March 2010 in Yerevan, Armenia ) was an Armenian Soviet musicologist .

childhood and education

Susanna Amatuni's father Babkena Amatuni was the manager of the Yerevan railway station. Her mother was the Russian teacher Yelisaveta Gerasimovna (Karapetovna) Amatunin. In 1928 the family moved from Yerevan to Leninakan because the father had got a job there as head of Section VI of the Transcaucasian Railway . Later, father also became a member of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia. Susanna Amatuni attended School No. 51 and the Nikogaios Tigranjan Music School in Leninakan. Susanna Amatuni was 13 years old when her father Babkena Amatuni was indicted and convicted of alleged Trotskyism and alleged espionage for Germany and Japan in 1937 on the wake of the Great Terror in the Soviet Union for alleged conspiracy with his namesake, the 1st Secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia has been. He was executed on her birthday, February 28, 1938. The family had to leave the comfortable apartment. From then on, Susanna lived in a basement with her mother, her brothers and a younger sister. Her mother did not get a job as the widow of an alleged Trotskyist and was arrested twice. Despite these adversities, Susanna Amatuni achieved excellent results at the general education school and the Christofor Kara-Mursa music school.

From 1941 to 1943 Susanna Amatuni studied at the physical-mathematical faculty of the Leninakan Pedagogical Institute, which she graduated with success. In 1944 she switched to the piano class at the Christofor Kara-Mursa Leninakan Music Academy. Susanna Amatuni then studied from 1945 to 1950 at the Composition Theoretical Faculty of the  Gnessin Institute in Moscow .

Career

From 1951 to 1968 Susanna Amatuni taught music theory disciplines at the Pjotr ​​Tchaikovsky Music School in Yerevan. From 1966 to 2010 she taught piano teaching methods and gave a special course in the analysis of musical works at the Yerevan State Conservatory ; from 1990 as a lecturer and from 1997 as a professor at the Faculty of Music Theory.

From 1987 Susanna Anatuni was a member of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of Armenia. 

In 1988 she defended her thesis as a candidate for art criticism with her monograph "Arno Babadschanjan: Instrumental Creativity: Research".

She took part in scientific conferences in Moscow, Leningrad, Tbilisi and Yerevan, among others.

Honors

Susanna Amatuni was awarded the Soviet medal “Veteran of Work” “for her long and conscientious work” . She received the title of Honored Teacher of the Armenian SSR
