Susanne Fritz
Susanne Fritz (born July 29, 1964 in Furtwangen in the Black Forest ) is a German writer and director.
Life
Born and raised in Furtwangen in the Black Forest , Susanne Fritz initially studied Protestant theology at the FU-Berlin , worked intensively on painting, moved to Freiburg , where she worked as an assistant director at the Basel and Freiburg city theaters and directed in Freiburg for the first time. From 1989 she published prose, in 1994 her first play The Third Country , which was premiered in English translation in Toronto, Canada , directed by Ross Manson. For the theater, Susanne Fritz edited literary models a. a. by James Joyce , Nathalie Nothomb and Knut Hamsun , staged on various stages in Germany, France and Italy. In addition to working with professionals, she staged plays with young people.
Since her narrative debut Ein Schaf an der Leine (2001) she has published short stories, novels, essays as well as reviews and articles in magazines, cultural journals and anthologies. She continues to bring literary texts to the stage, in conjunction with new music, jazz and improvisation. In her stage program WortMusik , she appears as a performer and pianist.
The basic themes of her literary work are violence and language, speechlessness, fragile affiliations and identities. Fritz deals with recent history, the catastrophes of the two world wars, National Socialism and the consequences up to the present day.
Susanne Fritz's parents came - as members of the German minority - from Swarsędz / Schwersenz near Poznań / Posen ; the eventful German-Polish history, the years of internment of the underage mother in a Polish labor camp, have had a strong impact on family life.
