Suzan Abdul Sattar Tamim (سوزان تميم; * September 23, 1977 in Lebanon ; † July 28, 2008 in Dubai , also: Susanne Tamim ) was a Lebanese pop singer.

Life

In 1996 she won the Lebanese casting show "Studio Al Fan" from the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation and was considered a promising talent with several hits. However, she was known for her antics. She disappeared in France for a long time before marrying her first husband Ali Muzannar in 2002. The marriage soon ended in divorce.

In her second marriage, she was married to the producer Adel Matuk. Matuk was introduced to her by Studio Al Fan boss Simone Asmar and asked to take care of Suzan. He should prepare for her comeback. A 15-year contract was concluded between his company Arab-European Production and you.

But after a few months he asked her to give up her singing career and become a housewife. Matuk even succeeded through a court order that Suzan Tamim was no longer allowed to leave Lebanon. Nevertheless, she moved to Dubai at the end of 2007, where she lived alone until the end. There she is said to have performed in clubs and was quite well known.

assassination

On the evening of July 28, 2008, Suzan Tamim was found dead in her apartment in Dubai Marina . She had been killed by multiple knife stabs a few hours earlier and then disfigured in the face. Initially, nothing was known about the circumstances. Her husband was in Beirut when the news of his death reached him. A 39-year-old suspect arrested shortly after the crime was found dead in his cell just days after his arrest.

After President Husni Mubarak's government banned further coverage of the case, a member of the ruling National Democratic Party emerged as a suspect. The building contractor Hisham Talaat Mustafa allegedly paid his employee Muhsen al-Sukkari, a former police officer, two million dollars for the murder of Tamim. The murderer left a multitude of traces on the scene (DNA traces, bloody shoe print, murder weapon, identification by video recording) so that after a few hours the criminal police in Dubai identified Muhsen al-Sukkari as the perpetrator. The Egyptian secret service had wiretapped calls between al-Sukkari and Mustafa in which they discussed the murder of the singer. Both men were arrested in Egypt and sentenced to death.

A death sentence has to be approved by a mufti: As the criminal court announced at the end of June 2009, the mufti of Egypt, the legal scholar Sheikh Ali Gomaa, upheld the sentences against Talaat Mustafa and al-Sukkari that had already been announced in May 2009.

On February 4, 2010, the two convicts applied for a revision of the criminal proceedings. They protested their innocence. The court ruled on March 4, 2010 that the proceedings should be revised.

In the appeal proceedings at the end of September 2010, Talaat Mustafa was sentenced to 15 years and al-Sukkari to life imprisonment.
