Suvi Pirjo Sofia Teräsniska (born April 10, 1989 in Kolari ) is a Finnish pop singer. Her best-known songs include “Hento kuiskaus” ( fin. “Quiet whisper”) and “Jos menet pois” (fin. “When you go away”). She has recorded seven albums so far, including a Christmas album. Six of them were at least platinum records , and a total of almost 150,000 had been sold by the end of 2011. The songs come from Jussi Rasinkangas , Toni Nygård , Petri Somer , Lasse Wikman , Jonne Aaron and Saija Aartela, among others .

life and career

Suvi Teräsniska was born in Kolari but moved to Oulu at the age of seven . In her childhood she sang in the choir "Musarit". In autumn 2005 the composer Jussi Rasinkangas noticed her and offered to record a demo. The recording was sent to several record companies. The Helsinki Music Company expressed interest and announced in late autumn that they would release Teräsniska's first single. In 2006 Teräsniska got in touch with Olli Lindholm, the front man of the band Yö , and offered to sing as a background singer for the band. Lindholm agreed. The first single "Sanoja vaan" was released in June 2007, and two more, "Valkoinen valhe" and "Hei mummo", were released in the same year.

The first album "Särkynten sydänten tie" was released in 2008. Two singles from this album were released, "Hento kuiskaus" and the title song "Särkynten sydänten tie". “Hento kuiskaus” was very successful and quickly reached eleventh place in the singles charts. The album also came in at position 11 and was named "Golden Record".

In 2009 the Christmas album "Tulkoon joulu" and the single "Kylmät enkelit" were released. In spring 2009, Suvi Teräsniska enrolled at the Leevi Madetoja Music High School in Tampere and moved there. In the same year she won the competition for the best young pop singer on the radio station "Iskelmä".

The third album "Rakkaus päällemme sataa" was released in 2010, the first single from it was "Jos menet pois". The album reached second place in the Finnish charts and was named "Double Platinum Record". In 2010 the singer moved back to Oulu.

In the same year she took part in the choir competition "Kuorosota" of the TV channel Nelonen as the director of the choir from Oulu. The choir prevailed against the choir from Pihtipudas in the final . The prize money of 40,000 euros was donated to the children's cancer department of the University Hospital in Oulu.

In February 2011 Suvi Teräsniska won the Finnish hit competition in the categories of best female artist , best album and best entertainer .

Personal

The singer has been married to Simo Aalto, who is responsible for light and sound in her band, since summer 2014. The marriage took place in the old church of Kolari . The couple live in Oulu .
