Otto Folberth

Otto Folberth (born July 10, 1896 in Mediasch ; † November 5, 1991 in Salzburg ) was a Transylvanian-Saxon pedagogue, historian and publicist.

Life

Otto Folberth was the son of a doctor. After graduating from high school and participating in World War I , he studied German, Romance languages, philosophy, art history and theology in Budapest, Berlin, Heidelberg, Klausenburg and Paris. In 1922 he received his doctorate in philosophy. From 1923 he was a teacher in Medias. During World War II he was a captain and war correspondent for the Romanian army.

Folberth was head of department in the “Research Institute of the German Ethnic Group in Romania” and director of the affiliated press organ “German Research in the Southeast”. In 1944 he toured with the lecture "Transylvania in the onslaught of Asia". In 1944 he was interned in Caracal . After escaping, he settled in Salzburg.

He is the father of Otto Gert Folberth .
