Klaus Popa

Klaus Popa (born November 10, 1951 in Brașov , Romania ) is a German historian . The focus of his research and publications is on the history of the Germans in Romania , especially that of the Transylvanian Saxons .

Life

Popa's mother came from the family of the soap manufacturers Eitel in what was then Kronstadt (now Brașov ); his father was a family of large farmers and officials from Mühlbach (today Sebeş ). He studied German and English in Cluj-Napoca and worked as a teacher in and around Brașov until he left for Germany in 1990.

In his work as a historian, Popa deals with the medieval history of Transylvania , the history of the Germans in Romania from 1919 to 1945 and the influence of National Socialism on the "German ethnic group in Romania" before and during the Second World War . Popa published numerous articles, including in the Karpaten-Rundschau (as a supplement to the Allgemeine Deutsche Zeitung für Romania ), in the Siebenbürgische Zeitung , the magazine for Transylvanian cultural studies and in the half-yearly publication for Southeast European history, literature and politics .

Popa currently lives in Bestwig in North Rhine-Westphalia .
