Svandís Svavarsdóttir (born August 24, 1964 in Selfoss ) is an Icelandic politician ( left-green movement ), a member of the Althing and since November 30, 2017 Minister of Health in the Icelandic Ministry of Welfare. From 2009 to 2013 she was Environment Minister.

Life

Svandís Svavarsdóttir studied linguistics, especially the Icelandic language , at the University of Iceland . She then had jobs as a teacher and as a professor.

In 2005 and 2006 she was general secretary of the left-green movement . From 2006 to 2009 she was a member of the municipal council of the Icelandic capital Reykjavík .

Since 2009 she has been a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-South . From May 10, 2009 to May 23, 2013 she was Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir II Environment Minister in the Icelandic government ; Her successor was Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson from the Progress Party . From 2013 to 2017 she was group leader of the left-green movement in the Althing. Bjarkey Gunnarsdóttir was her successor in this capacity .

Since November 30, 2017, she has been Minister of Health in the Katrín Jakobsdóttir cabinet , which consists of members of the left-green movement, the Independence Party and the Progressive Party .
