Svatopluk Havelka (born May 2, 1925 in Vrbice , Czechoslovakia , † February 24, 2009 in Prague ) was a Czech musician and composer.

Life

Havelka studied musicology at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague under Joseph Hutter and Antonin Sychra . At the same time he had private composition lessons with Karel Boleslav Jirák from 1945 to 1947 . Sychra was together with B. Liebich teacher for musical education at the university, from which he finally graduated in 1949.

In 1955 he wrote his first symphony. The work is characterized by idiosyncratic harmonic progressions. Havelka prefers modern composition techniques and wrote around 70 film scores. Princ a Vecernice (1979), for example, shows counterpoint to the plot with many jazz harmonic moments in interesting orchestration, used in a medieval fairy tale, his harmonious thinking.
