Svein Roald Hansen (born August 20, 1949 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian journalist and politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (Ap). From January 1992 to August 1995 he was State Secretary , since 2001 he has been a member of the Storting .

Life

After graduating from school, Hansen studied history and political science at the University of Oslo from 1969 to 1971 . He then worked as a journalist for NTB and the Oppland Arbeiderblad. In 1978 he was promoted to editor-in-chief at the newspaper Democrats, where he stayed until 1982. During this time he also wrote two books. After his stint with Democrats, he switched to A-presses . Hansen was active in local politics during this time and from 1983 to 1993 was a member of the local parliament of Borge , a current district of Fredrikstad .

State Secretary and Mayor

He worked as a consultant to Gro Harlem Brundtland from 1983 to 1986. In 1986 he worked as a political advisor in the State Chancellery ( Statsministerens kontor ). From 1990 to 1992 he worked again as an editor. On January 10, 1992, he was appointed State Secretary in the Norwegian State Chancellery and he held the post until August 4, 1995. Hansen, who was a member of the local parliament of Fredrikstad from 1993, then became mayor of the municipality. In the years 1999 to 2015 he was again an ordinary member of the city council. Between 2003 and 2009 he headed the pro-European Europabevegelsen .

Storting MP

In the 2001 parliamentary elections , Hansen entered the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time . There he represents the constituency of Østfold . In his first legislative term he was a member of the Finance Committee, after the 2005 election he switched to the Control and Constitutional Committee, where he acted as second deputy chairman. Hansen also became a member of the executive committee of the Ap group, where he remained until September 2013. In the period between October 2009 and October 2013 he was finally the first deputy chairman of the Foreign and Defense Committee, after the parliamentary elections in 2013 he became a member again. During this time he was also the third vice president of the Storting. In October 2017 he became a member of the Labor and Social Committee, and in January 2018 he was transferred to the Finance Committee during the legislative period.

In May 2020, he announced that he would not run again for a seat in parliament in the 2021 Storting election.
