On February 6, 1998 Eller came to his only Bundesliga appearance when he was substituted on by coach Winfried Schäfer in the 84th minute for Gunther Metz in the game against MSV Duisburg . At the end of the 1997/98 season , the KSC was relegated to the second Bundesliga. Eller was in the following two second division seasons as a contract amateur in the professional squad, but was not used again. Together with his brother Dominique, Eller played during these two years for the Karlsruhe amateur team in the Regionalliga Süd, which was third class at the time . In the summer of 2000, the KSC was relegated from the second Bundesliga to the regional league, the Eller brothers now played in the second team of Karlsruhe in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . Although Sven Eller was the top scorer in the Oberliga-Elf with ten goals together with Heiko Butscher , Stefan Kuntz did not use him in the first team.
In 2001 Eller moved to the regional league promoted TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , for whom he played 48 games as a midfielder in the Regionalliga Süd under coach Hansi Flick and scored seven goals. After two years in Kraichgau, he moved to the Baden-Württemberg league club FC Nöttingen in 2003 . The team trained by Gerd Dais surprisingly became champions of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, as an attacking midfielder, Sven Eller contributed eight goals in 30 games to the club's greatest success to date. After this season Eller interrupted his footballing activities for six months to devote himself to his studies. In January 2005 he joined the league club VfR Mannheim and stormed for the club until June 2006. He then played as a striker at FC Astoria Walldorf . With the club he succeeded in 2006/07 promotion from the association league to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.
