Sven Hermann

Sven Hermann (* 1974 in Bühl ) is a German accordionist and composer .

Life and work

Hermann received accordion lessons from Teodoro Anzellotti and Alois Müller in southern Germany before he moved to the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen , where he studied accordion with Mie Miki -Schenck from 1995 to 1999 and composition with Nicolaus A. Huber from 1997-2001 . He completed his studies at the university with a diploma.

In 2000 he founded Interzone perceptible together with the electric bass player Matthias Hettmer , with whom he was also artistic director of KopfHörer / experimental music electro-visual in Bühl / Baden in 2002/2003. His pedagogical work does not only include instrumental lessons, in his teaching assignment “Working with electroacoustic media and live electronics” at the University of Dortmund 2002–2003 he combined chamber music with group composition and dealing with electroacoustic producers.

His compositions are performed at home and abroad.

As an accordionist, he performs as a soloist with Interzone perceptible and in ensembles and orchestras around the world. He worked together with the Ensemble Musikfabrik NRW, the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, the Ensemble Varianti Stuttgart, the “Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart”, the Ensemble “Giraffe bleue” Baden / Switzerland, the Schlagquartett Köln and the WDR symphony orchestra.

Appearances have taken him to the Cologne Philharmonic and to major new music platforms, including the Witten Days for New Chamber Music, the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, the Eclat Festival in Stuttgart, the Donaueschinger Musiktage , the New Music Festival in Rümlingen / Switzerland and the Mönchengladbach Festival Ensemblia.

His solo concert activities took him to the USA, where he had performances with the performance formation "Jack the dog" (Chicago). In the period 1999–2000 he worked as a soloist in music theater projects with Daniel Ott in Biel, Zurich and Rümlingen in Switzerland, in Bielefeld, and at the EXPO 2000 in Hanover (Swiss pavilion by Peter Zumthor ).

Hermann lives with his wife and daughter in Gladbeck / North Rhine-Westphalia.

Awards

In 1997 he won the Köhler-Osbahr Competition in Duisburg as an accordionist. He was selected in 2000 for the interpretation of the work "Augenbildermusik" by Martin Schüttler for the Fifth Young Talent Forum of the Society for New Music Cologne and the Ensemble Modern .

In 2001 he was represented with the composition "ILI XV" for electric bass solo, played by Matthias Hettmer at the Sixth Young Talent Forum of the Society for New Music Cologne and the Ensemble Modern .
