Matthias Hettmer

Matthias Hettmer (* 1973 in Marl , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German electric bass player and composer .

Life and work

Hettmer received electric bass lessons from Peter Sonntag in Aachen from 1989–1993 and composition and theory lessons from Istvan Nagy in Marl from 1992–1995 , before moving to Essen / North Rhine-Westphalia, around 1995–2000 instrumental composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and electronic music To study composition with Dirk Reith in the ICEM at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen. Hettmer was the bassist of the Krause-Hettmer-Braasch-Trio (experimental music) from 1989-1993 and a member of Peter Sonntag's bass big band Bass In Colors from 1992-1995. In 1994 he played on the CD Bass In Colors and in 1994 played a tour of Germany for publication. Since 1990 he has been working and researching in his own recording studio. Hettmer has been working with the dancer Annelise Soglio on a wide variety of projects since 1999. As an electric bass player, he gives world premieres at home and abroad, works as a soloist and together with ensembles of new music, including the Ensemble Phoenix Basel (Switzerland) and the Ensemble Katarakt / Basel. In 2000 he founded Interzone perceptible together with the accordionist and composer Sven Hermann , with whom he was also artistic director of KopfHörer / experimental music electrovisual in Bühl / Baden in 2002/2003. His pedagogical work includes not only instrumental lessons on the electric bass: in his teaching assignment work with electroacoustic media and live electronics at the University of Dortmund from 2002–2003 he combined chamber music with group composition and dealing with electroacoustic producers. Hettmer lives in Essen.

Awards

"Back and forth" (setup solo) was selected for the 2000 Detmold University Forum for Young Composers . In 2001 he won the International Competition Trstenice 2001 with the same piece . In the same year he was selected for the sixth forum for young talents of the Society for New Music Cologne and the Ensemble Modern for the interpretation of the work ILI XV for solo electric bass by Sven Hermann .
