Sven Schütte (* 1953 ) is a German medieval archaeologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Hanover, Schütte studied prehistory and early history , classical archeology , ethnology and soil science at the University of Göttingen from 1974 to 1979 . In 1979 he obtained his MA and initially worked as a research assistant at the Municipal Museum as a city ​​archaeologist in Göttingen . He received his doctorate in 1990 from the University of Hamburg . In November 1991 Schütte went to Cologne as director of the Office for Archaeological Monument Preservation , which became part of the Roman Germanic Museum from August 1994 . From 1996 to 2003 he worked at the Cologne City Museum in the Department of Archeology of the Middle Ages. Since 1992 he has had lectureships at the University of Cologne. From November 2006 to April 10, 2013 he was head of the Archaeological Zone in Cologne. During his service there were some upheavals documented in the press. Disciplinary proceedings ended his activity at the Archaeological Zone. With lawsuits against the new vacancy, Schütte was finally defeated in 2015 before the Cologne Administrative Court after a new advertisement had been sued. Instead, the city of Cologne entrusted him with the scientific elaboration of the archaeological finds around the subway construction on Cologne's Heumarkt .
