Sven the crusader
Sven Svensøn , called the Crusader , ( Danish Svend Korsfarer ; * around 1050 in Denmark , † 1097 in Asia Minor ) was a Danish prince and participant in the First Crusade .
He was a son of the Danish King Sven Estridsson . He was engaged to Florine of Burgundy , daughter of Duke Odo I of Burgundy .
Together with his fiancé he went on the First Crusade. When they arrived in Constantinople in 1097 with their contingent, which consisted of two unknown bishops and allegedly 1,500 men , the main army of the crusade had already marched on. So they followed alone to Asia Minor and were attacked while crossing the plains of Cappadocia , possibly at Philomelion , by a numerically superior force of the Rum Seljuks . Sven and Florine were killed in the fighting.
