Hahn currently lives in her native Hamburg and worked for edding AG from 2015 until she was elected to the EU Parliament in 2019 .

Political career

Hahn has been a member of the FDP since 2010. Since 2016 she has been an assessor on the state board of the FDP Hamburg . In the same year she was elected Vice-President of LYMEC, and two years later its President.

Hahn was nominated by the Young Liberals and their FDP regional association as the top candidate for the 2019 European elections. At the FDP European Party Conference 2019 , she prevailed in a vote for second place on the list with 73 to 21 percent against the incumbent MEP Nadja Hirsch .

In the EU election campaign, WirtschaftsWoche Online perceived it as "the new European face of the FDP" and describes itself as "not shaped by the national perspective".

Political positions

digitalization

At a panel discussion on the 2019 European elections, Hahn sharply criticized the European Union's copyright reform with the remark that the EU had "shot itself in the leg". In March 2019, she said at a demonstration against the planned EU copyright reform in Hamburg:

“The planned copyright reform is endangering the Internet as we know it. Upload filters are the technical consequence of Article 17, which was previously called Article 13. These filters are poison for freedom of expression! There is an acute risk that the filters will also block legal content. That would be censorship. The copyright reform would destroy the idea of the Internet. ... I am very happy that so many people across Europe have taken to the streets for freedom on the Internet today. Many of the demonstrators are young people. The fact that they use their free time to stand up for this issue shows how important it is for our generation in all EU countries. The EU Parliament should take seriously the many citizens who take to the streets across Europe. In view of the protests, Parliament must not simply wave through the controversial reform. After the European elections in May we can start a new and better initiative that does not destroy the idea of the Internet. "

European economic policy

While the FDP acknowledged “the responsibility of the member states for their own budgets” in the European elections, Hahn said: “A positioning in future euro rescue policy always depends on the specific individual case.”
