The Swedish Svenska Deckarakademin (German Swedish Crime Academy , English Swedish Crime Writers' Academy) is an organization for the promotion of literature, especially the genre of detective and crime novels and the associated specialist literature.

history

The Svenska Deckarakademin was founded on April 16, 1971 by the writers Jan Broberg , Jörgen Elgström , Bo Lundin and the publisher Åke Runnquist as a smaller counterpart to the Swedish Academy . The proposal to found such an association came from the journalist and detective writer Hans-Krister Rönblom (1901-1965), who presented it in the daily Aftonbladet on November 2, 1957 . The management was originally incumbent on 13 members, until today the number has increased to 21. Half of the members consist of crime writers, the second half of literary critics, plus a competent crime expert as the decisive voice. Founding member and publisher Åke Runnquist acted as the first expert .

Every year there is a spring and an autumn meeting of the academy members. The autumn meeting usually takes place in the Eskilstuna State Research and Study Library, founded in 1989 , whose main task is the compilation of Swedish crime literature, both from Swedish originals and translations into Swedish, as well as specialist literature on the genre of crime fiction. The Svenska Deckarakademin first reached a larger international audience in 1981 with the implementation of the “3. International Congress of Detective Writers “(IAEP / IACW Conference) in Stockholm.

One of the important tasks of the crime academy is to award crime literature in the following categories.
