Sverre is a Norwegian masculine given name , which is also common in Denmark and Sweden (often for people with a Norwegian background).

Origin and meaning of the name

The name comes from the old Norse first name Sverrir and means "Schwinger, wilder". It goes back to the old Norse verb svarra "to roar, whiz", from which sverra "to swing, whirl" arose. Sverre is best translated as "wild man".
