Sverre Myrli (born August 26, 1971 in Nes ) is a Norwegian politician of the social democratic Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1997 to 2001 and again since 2005 he has been a member of the Storting .

Life

After finishing secondary school, he worked from 1990 to 1992 as youth secretary for the labor movement Arbeiderbevegelsen in what was then Akershus province . He then did his conscription in the Norwegian Air Force and he worked for the Norsk Folkehjelp aid organization, among others . Between 1990 and 1993 Myrli headed the youth organization Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF) in Akershus, until 1994 he was chairman of the organization Sosialdemokrater mot EU in Akershus. The organization opposed Norway joining the European Union . From 1991 to 2003 and again from 2003 to 2007 he sat in the local parliament of his home parish Nes, between 1991 and 1997 he was also a member of the Fylkesting of Akershus.

From October 1996 to October 1997, Myrli worked as a political advisor in the Ministry of Transport . He moved into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time in the 1997 general election . There he represented the constituency of Akershus and became a member of the transport committee. In the 2001 election he left the Storting and studied public administration at Oslo University from 2002 to 2005 . In the Storting elections in 2005 he again succeeded in entering parliament and he became a member of the Labor and Social Committee. After the 2009 election , Myrli moved to the Foreign and Defense Committee, where he remained until September 2013, before moving to the Transport and Communications Committee following the 2013 election . He stayed there after the 2017 parliamentary elections .

In 2011 he received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Copenhagen Business School . In 2011 he became chairman of Den norsk-tyske Willy Brandt-stiftelsen , having previously been involved in various Norwegian-German organizations.

Positions

In May 2014, he was the only one of the 169 Storting MPs to vote against a law that should modernize the Norwegian Basic Law in the language form Nynorsk . In February 2007 he was also the only one who voted against the abolition of the multi-chamber system in Storting.
