The Swetlana Passage ( English Svetlana Passage ) is a navigable strait in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands . It separates the Oliphant Islands from the Gourlay Peninsula from Signy Island . It allows access from Orwell Bight to Fur Seal Cove .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey took from 1947 to 1950 surveys before. Aerial photographs were taken in 1968 by the Royal Navy . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the strait in 2004 after Svetlana Soljanik (* 1936), wife of the Soviet fisheries scientist Gennadi Soljanik, who visited Signy Island on board the SS Grewny in 1963 .
