Sy Kadiatou Sow

Sy Kadiatou Sow (born March 7, 1955 in Nioro du Sahel ) is a Malian politician who was foreign minister from 1994 to 1995 and the first female governor in Mali.

Life

Kadiatou Sow was born in Nioro du Sahel in 1955. She holds a Masters in Modern Literature and a Degree in Public Law from the University of Paris-Nanterre (1978).

From 1982 to 1990 Kadiatou Sow worked for the Malian Textile Company as a human resources manager. She was a founding member of the Alliance pour la Démocratie en Mali-Parti Pan-Africain pour la Liberté, la Solidarité et la Justice (ADEMA-PASJ, African Party for Solidarity and Justice) and was appointed to the board in 2000. In the 2002 presidential election , she was campaign manager for Soumaïla Cissé .

In April 1993, Sow became the first woman in Mali to be appointed governor of Bamako district. In February 1994 she was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Malians Abroad and African Integration. In October 1994 she was appointed Minister for Urban Planning and Habitat and served in this capacity until February 2000. She oversaw the policy including the establishment of the Mali Housing Bank, the Mali Housing Authority and other professional associations.

From 2001 to 2006, Kadiatou Sow was director of the Community Development Support Project, a poverty reduction project funded by the African Development Bank and the Malian government, and since February 2009 she has been President of the Alliance for Democracy in Mali .

Kadiatou Sow was active in women's associations and served from 1991 to 2000 as president of the women's collective von Mail and as a member of the network of African ministers and parliamentarians.
