Sybille Benning (born January 8, 1961 in Münster ) is a German politician ( CDU ). She was elected to the German Bundestag in the 2013 federal election.

Life

After graduating from high school at the episcopal high school Marienschule in Münster, Benning did an apprenticeship in gardening and landscaping and then studied landscape management at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences . She completed her studies with a degree in engineering. She then completed a degree in geography (landscape ecology) at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, which she graduated with a degree in geography. Benning works as a freelance landscape planner at Benning GmbH.

She is married and has two daughters and two sons.

Political activity

Benning became a member of the CDU in 2001. She has been active in local politics since 2002 and was a directly elected member of the Münster city council from 2004 to 2013. From 2004 to 2012 she was deputy chairwoman of the CDU council group in Münster, and from 2008 to 2013 she was the spokesperson for planning policy for the CDU council group.

In the 2013 Bundestag election she ran for the direct mandate in the Münster constituency , which she won with 38.8% of the first votes. In the Bundestag, Benning is a member of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment and a deputy member of the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety . She is also a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development and a deputy member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .

She is one of the 75 Union MPs - 68 from the CDU (26.9% of all CDU MPs) and 7 from the CSU (12.5% ​​of all CSU MPs) - who voted for same-sex marriage in July 2017 .
