Sydney Morris Cockerell

Sydney Morris Cockerell , called Sandy Cockerell (born June 6, 1906 in London , † November 6, 1987 in Cambridge ) was a British bookbinder , book restorer and paper designer.

He took over in 1935, the Douglas Cockerell & Son bookbinding from his father in Grantchester in the county of Cambridgeshire . There he perfected the art of making marbled paper using traditional raw materials such as ox bile and Irish moss (Carragheenalga), which in combination with alum forms the basis for his color solutions.

In 1982 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University . His world-famous bookbinding business is continued while maintaining his technical basics.
