Syed Mohammed Arif Saahab (born January 29, 1944 ) is an Indian badminton player , whose great successes mainly stem from the coaching career that followed his active career .

Career

Syed Mohammed Arif graduated from the University of Hyderabad with a B.Sc. from. He graduated from the National Institute of Sports in Patiala as a badminton coach. In 1974 he started in the Indian national team, whose head coach he became in 1997. His protégés included Pullela Gopichand , PVV Lakshmi , Jwala Gutta and Saina Nehwal .

In 2000 he was awarded the Dronacharya Award and in 2012 with the Indian State Order Padma Shri . He also received the Meritorious Certificate Award from the Badminton World Federation .
