history

The Jewish community of Bonfeld experienced a sharp increase in membership in the second half of the 18th century. Therefore a synagogue was built around 1780 . It consisted of two rooms on the first floor of a residential building on today's property at Rappenauer Straße 4. Even when the Jewish community of Bonfeld was a subsidiary of the Jewish community of Massenbachhausen from 1832 to 1865 , the service was regularly held in the Bonfeld synagogue, since Massenbachhausen was two hours was away.

National Socialist Persecution

During the November pogrom of 1938 , the interior of the synagogue was destroyed by SA men and Jewish men were severely mistreated. After November 1938 the synagogue building was sold and demolished.
