history

In 1777 the Jewish community, then consisting of 15 families, applied for permission to convert the house of the baker Eigner, who had fled for political reasons, into a school and synagogue. This was also approved.

The new synagogue was built on the same property at the beginning of the 19th century using the proceeds from the demolition materials of this previous building (200 guilders ) and another 300 guilders. It consisted of a massive quarry stone cellar, above which the gable, east-facing church rose.

After the synagogue was completed, the Königstein and Falkenstein Jews joined forces in 1807 to form a community. In 1905 a stairwell was added to the house on the north side.

100 years later, after the construction of the synagogue in Königstein, the synagogue in Falkenstein was profaned. It was sold to A. Gilbert, who had it converted into a residential house by F. Feger in 1909. The historicizing half-timbered decoration was attached to the outside, and two full storeys were created inside. The stairwell was extended by a vestibule.

At the time of the synagogue, there was a Star of David in the round window on the gable end, to the right and left of it were high round arched windows
