The synagogue in Poppelsdorf , a district of Bonn in North Rhine-Westphalia , was built in 1901/02 and was located at the intersection of Bennauerstraße and Jagdweg.

The synagogue was built according to plans by the Bonn architect Wilhelm Weinreis (1872-1906) in the Moorish style. The model was the Bonn synagogue from 1878/79 . The inauguration took place in May 1902. The synagogue offered around 100 men and 65 women on the gallery .

On November 10, 1938 , violent National Socialists set the synagogue on fire; the interior was doused with gasoline and set on fire. The building burned down and the ruins were demolished six months later.

Commemoration

The inscription on the memorial stone erected in 1963 reads: “The Poppelsdorf synagogue stood at this point. It was built in 1902 and destroyed in the National Socialist acts of violence against our citizens on November 9, 1938. "

On November 9, 1988, a memorial in the form of a steel menorah was erected next to the memorial stone at the site of the synagogue .
