The former synagogue in Rosenberg (today Olesno) in Upper Silesia dates from the 1880s and was destroyed during the November pogroms in 1938 . It was located in the Great Suburb (today's ul. Wielkie Przedmieście).

The synagogue faced east and had a red brick facade. The tower had two small onion-shaped domes and a large dome in the middle. The building had Moorish and Romanesque architectural elements.

history

The first synagogue in Rosenberg was built in 1814 on the initiative of Pinkus Schönwald. The wooden building was built by Pantsch and Anton Winkler. In 1887 it burned down after being struck by lightning.

From 1887 to 1889 the new synagogue was built in its place. On October 5, 1887, Rabbi Blumfeld laid the foundation stone . It was probably designed by Siegfried Schlesinger. Blumfeld inaugurated it in 1889.

During the November pogroms on the night of November 9th to 10th, 1938, the synagogue was set on fire by members of the SA and destroyed in the process. One of the Torah scrolls could be saved. Its remains must have existed after the war, as it was described in literature in the summer of 1945. Today, however, it has been completely removed.
