Synagogue (Bayonne)
The synagogue in Bayonne , a French city in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in 1836/37 according to plans by the architect Capdeville. The synagogue in the Rue Maubec no. 35 stands since 1995 as a monument historique on the list of monuments in France.
The neoclassical building stands a little hidden in a courtyard, the entrance of which is flanked by two pavilions. The inauguration took place on September 26, 1837. Today's Saint-Esprit district , where the synagogue is located, was still an independent community at that time.
The synagogue has been under renovation since 2016. Church services take place all year round .
Furnishing
The stained glass windows were created by Mauméjean stained glass .
The rococo- style Torah shrine , the menorah and the pulpit come from the previous building, which was built on the same site around 1600.
