The synagogue in Germersheim , the district town of the district of the same name in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built around 1863. The synagogue was set up on the ground floor of the building at Oberamtsstrasse 12, formerly Hauptstrasse 39.

history

The building was built by the Jewish community of Germersheim as a community center. On the upper floor there was a classroom and a teacher's apartment.

Due to the emigration and emigration of Jewish community members, the synagogue was hardly used in the period after the First World War . After 1933, no more services were held.

In March 1938 the synagogue building was sold by the Association of Bavarian Israelite Congregations to a private person, who converted the building into a residential building that has been preserved to this day. The building survived the November pogroms in 1938 , only a few windows were broken.

The arched windows and the arched portal as well as small stars of David carved into the dormer windows are reminiscent of the former synagogue.
