The Palaprat Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in Toulouse , the capital of the Occitanie region of France . The synagogue at No. 2 rue Palaprat was built in 1856/57.

description

The synagogue is a simple structure built for a small Jewish community and cannot be compared with the representative synagogue buildings that were built in Bayonne and Bordeaux in the mid-19th century . The Jewish house of God can only be recognized from the outside through the Hebrew inscription above the entrance.

The rectangular prayer room is approximately nine meters wide and twelve meters long. The Torah shrine on the east side can be reached via three steps. It is framed by two pilasters made of pink marble. The bimah stands in the middle of the room, which corresponds to the Sephardic rite. The three-sided women's gallery is supported by six columns and four pillars .
