Syncrossus berdmorei ( Syn. : Botia berdmorei a) freshwater fish from the family of loaches (Botiidae) in Burma in the river basin of the Irrawaddy , in Tenasserim and in the Indian state of Manipur occurs. The distribution area adjoins that of the very similar Beaufort loach ( Syncrossus beauforti ) to the west. The species was named after the collector of the type specimens Berdmore.

features

Syncrossus berdmorei becomes up to 25 cm long, with the males remaining slightly smaller. The body is elongated, laterally flattened and almost the same height over the entire length, but the caudal fin stalk is significantly lower than the greatest body height and longer than high (higher than long in Beaufort's loach). The dorsal fin begins far behind the pelvic fins (just before the pelvic fins in Beaufort's loach).

The color of Syncrossus berdmorei is variable, ocher to cream in color. On each side of the head there are two vertical stripes that continue behind the eyes in dotted stripes. The flanks are patterned with 10 to 11 wide horizontal stripes. The dorsal fin is yellowish and has vertical rows of dots, as is the caudal fin, in which two to three transverse bands at the roots are particularly strong. The stripe on the top of the head or on the front back (section between head and dorsal fin) in Beaufort's loach is missing in Syncrossus berdmorei . The barbels on the upper jaw are blackish. External gender differences are not known.

Aquaristics

Syncrossus berdmorei is of little importance in the aquarium hobby . All fish imported and sold under this name are likely to be Beaufort's loaches.
